Apples of the Hesperides

Apples of the Hesperides

There was no hero in Greece more famous than Heracles! One of his twelve labors was the theft of golden apples from a garden at the end of the earth. Hercules killed the dragon Ladon and, with the help of Atlas holding the heavens, completed the task. Then Athena looped the myth by returning the fruits back.

Goddess Yemaya

and the carnival of masks

Gelede ceremony dancers wear masks of animals, snakes and birds. They glorify the Great Mother, the water goddess Yemaya. The woman, who embodies the spirit of the goddess, moves smoothly, like a wave, and when the drums sound, her dance becomes like a stormy sea.
